Alan, can you please make a recommendation for the right extractor to buy? I don’t want to make a mistake.

Here are my system specs and situation.

What I want to do: I want is to stream ESPN games, Netflix & Amazon Movies in HD & Surround.

Internet: Home is set up for WiFi via Spectrum (formerly Time Warner) @ 50MB/Second

Source: HP Pavillion Laptop with only 1 HDMI out (will be using this device for streaming)

Video: Epson HD Projector with only 2 HDMI in ports, NO Ouputs. (I don’t recall the HD capability of the top of my head (1080 etc). Do you need that?

Audio: SONOS Play 1 Surround Sound System, playbar only accepts Digital Optical Port. This ok when using TV, but not for projector.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

You just need a hdmi 1.4 or 1.3 audio extractor (one hdmi input, one hdmi output, one s/pdif optical audio output), no need hdmi 2.0 because your projector only support up to 1080p.

You can search “hdmi audio extractor splitter” on Amazon or bestbuy, or view recommendations in this post you left comment. hdmi 1.3 or 1.4 is enough for you.

    Hello Alan,

I need your help picking the right extractor to connect my Acer Predator 17 laptop to the Logitech Z906 speaker system. My laptop only has a 3.5mm line out, so I’m planning to use its HDMI to output audio and the Display Port to output video. So, I need an extractor that does not require an HDMI Output connection to receive audio at the Analog and Optical outputs. That is, the HDMI Output on the extractor will NOT be connected to a monitor, only the Optical (S/PDIF) Output will be connected to the Z906.

    Thank you.

Hi, HDMI to HDMI with Optical audio extractor is right for you. It’s hard to find a converter without HDMI output, but please do not worry, SPDIF Optical audio support output separately to your Logitech Z906 system without connecting TV/Monitor. So the products in this post is right for you, you can also find other choices on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2JrBsL8
Besides, it’s better to make sure what HDMI version (HDMI 2.0? HDMI 1.4? or HDMI 1.3?) do you need before purchasing it.
      Good luck!
