How to Choose the Right Electric Toothbrush 2017?

So far the best two brands is Oral-B and Philips, I have dozens of products to recommend about these two brands. So this time no recommendations for other brands like Panasonic first.

There are 2 cleaning modes for electric toothbrush, one is mechanical and another is called Sonic.

Mechanical also called rotation which is having friction directly with teeth. It has high cleanliness, but there will be abrasion to the teeth inevitably, more suitable for healthy mouth. German brand Oral-B as representative.

Sonic toothbrush in fact can not transmit ultrasound, just because the vibration frequency is higher. Using water making the tartar and plaque falling off via vibration. It is more tender and the abrasion to teeth is very small, but the cleaning capacity is not as good as mechanical. Such as Philips.

For example, Philips Sonicare, brush head makes side-by-side movements for an effective plaque removal. It produces up to 31,000 strokes per minute, which gives maximum possible brushing accuracy. It is different with what Oral-B stated 40,000 strokes. Oral-B is rotation-oscillation action, not vibration.

The meaning of vibration is driving the liquid flow by brush movement, making the high-speed flow of liquid getting into the areas brush hardly can reach, like gap between teeth, below the gum line.

Among same price electric toothbrushes, Sonic toothbrush cleaning capacity is weaker than mechanical rotating toothbrushes. Sonic Toothbrush makes brushing more natural and comfortable, less noisy and more tender. So if need better sonic toothbrush, prices would be relatively more expensive. And toothbrush heads also more expensive than mechanical rotating brush head.

If you don’t want to take time to research the differences between varieties of electric toothbrushes, and your budget is also enough. Then buy an more expensive and overall rating is good electric toothbrush, then it won’t be wrong.

I am going to introduce more specifically for the 2 brands, first start with Oral-B

Oral-B product line is mainly divided into two series: Professional Care and Tri Zone. The biggest difference between them is: Professional Care is round brush head, and Tri Zone is more similar with normal toothbrush’ brush head.

This video might explain very well about the difference between Professional Care and Tri Zone:

Common models for Professional Care (called Pro) and Tri Zone are: Vitality, 600, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000, the bigger number is the newer upgraded version, and of course, price more expensive. So, if it is not a problem for you, just pick up the biggest number model.

Oral-B Vitality

This is the entry-level model  of Oral-B, as well the only 2D products still selling now with cheapest price,  2d technology simply uses 7,600 oscillations per minute and the toothbrush head can only rotate on the horizontal surface.

Oral-B 600

Oral-B 600 is a basic model of 3D technology. The 3d technology uses 8,800 oscillations plus 20,000 pulsations. Oral-B 600

come with a “pressure sensor” that is meant to alert the user when they are brushing too hard, something that dentists and experts agree is a bad thing. In theory, then, a pressure sensor can be good.

On the basis of Oral-B 2000, added sensitive cleaning mode, mainly for sensitive teeth. If you feel aching when you eat hot or cold, sweet or sour, it  reveals the Enamel had been injured. The hardness and vibration of normal brush head may not suitable for you, then you can try Oral-B 3000.

Oral-B 9000

Oral-B 9000

One more brush head compared with Oral-B 8000. The travel suits support USB charging.

Above are all Oral-B main models currently,  personally I think the Oral-B 2000, 4000, 6000, 7000 is the most cost-efficient.

A kinder reminder, when comparing price, please pay attention to the attached quantity and model of brush head. As different mode requires different brush head, otherwise you need buy it separately.

Now we talk about main models of Philips Sonicare.

31000 movements vibration frequency per minute, with cleaning, whitening, sensitive 3 modes.

31000 movements vibration frequency per minute, with cleaning mode only.

Sonicare models are really too much, do not need list here one by one. While please note, all Sonicare mode No. started with HX with 4 numbers. Normally, if the first 2 letters are the same, then the basic functions are the same. The last 2 numbers mainly represents the difference on accessories.

How to choose the best electric toothbrush 2017

In short, you might feel uncomfortable when start using electric toothbrushes, but slowly you will think it is a great thing.

  • Teeth will be more cleaner and smooth, dental calculus will be reducing (slowly)
  • More simple and convenient in the morning brush when you still sleepy.

  • Obviously, price much higher than manual toothbrush

Electric toothbrush is better than manual, rotation is cleaner than sonic. While sonic’s abrasion on teeth is less than rotation.

  • Sonic toothbrush better for sensitive and injured tooth.

  • Do not brush too hard when using electric toothbrush.

  • Please power off the electric toothbrush before taking out from your mouth to avoid foam splashing.

That is all.
